Seems like Debbie would have been an appropriate name after all.

There's a 5 or 6 inch common pleco in with her, and for the last week she's been bumpin into it and nipping at it and generally being obnoxious. She's done it before but it's never been really evil so I've just left 'em alone.

So today we noticed, credit to the 5 year old who noticed first, Eggs all over the one big rock in the tank.

If I could find another one and make sure it was male, I'd have my egg laying project for the 7 year old for sure. Smile

My buddies at the fish farm don't have anything on their lists for anything even close either in size or type.

I emailed Rapps, with the pictures I took from before and asked if he had any. I don't know anywhere else to try for more obscure cichlids.

Rapps got back to me, he thinks she's a Amphilophus citrinellus since the chancho aren't very common.

I'm not sure if I've had two people agree yet on what she is past the Amphilophus part.

Amphilophus hogaboomorum or Amphilophus margaritifer (syn. longimanus) is what I'm saying. I do also agree with Jeff it looks like a citrinellus

They're all so close it's really hard to tell, there's even the off chance she's a mix already, since her history is completely unknown

Wyite was sayin chanco, one of the guys at the fish farm is saying zaliosus. Mike, your picks look like they could be it too.

I give up. At this point, so long as I can get a male that will have viable eggs with her it's all good. It's not like the kids are going to care. They'll just be happy to have the baby fishies.

I suppose I need to get my brine shrimp-a-rator going fairly soon. Mike, what are you feeding your wee JDs right now?

First bites.

It looks like they all could interbreed so I'd get what was easy to come across.

Jeff says he has a really nice banded male that should work. I'm thinking I'm just going to go with that.
