I always thought they were neat, but they get beefy. They had a few adults at the fish farm a while back that were almost 2 feet.

If/when I get another-nother-nother big tank I'm tempted to get some of these guys:

The juvies are kinda lame, but the adults are pretty.

The dovii are cool. I'd feel guilty puttin' one in a 6' tank though.

Now the parrots, I wouldn't mind havin' a coupla them. Fit in real nice in a SA themed tank, with some oscars and some Gymmies or Geos. Add a half dozen silver dollars and a coupla mid-sized catfish. Wink

Yup, only even bigger and meaner. Smile

Now a few folks may see this as sacrilegious, but I think a 2 foot dovii on the end of some 8 lb. test would be one wicked fight. Probly put a trout to shame.

I think it would be fun also. People have to remember almost every large cichlid we keep is a food fish in its native land.

Yea. I remember reading the locals don't care for RTCs since the meat is a dark color, but everything down there is fair game for eating.

nom nom nom. Smile

A 180 would be adequate housing for an adult breeding pair of Wolf Cichlids (Parachromis dovii). However, a 240 would be best, taking into account the provisions of plenty of hiding spaces for the much smaller female.

I have kept these in the past and really enjoyed them. They can be kept with other boisterous and pugnacious cichlids, but only in a large aquarium. Unfortunately, when it comes to breeding, they will literally destroy all other aquarium inhabitants.

True, and most captive kept species only get 18 inches make usually.
