| I'm wondering if you guys might know anything.
With all those feeder comets I took in. Some seem to have some serious funk on them and I'm stumped as to what it is and what to treat it with. A number of the larger ones have cloudy eyes, which I know is a poor water condition thing for goldfish, but a number of them are getting sunken eyes and then just dying with no other apparent symptoms.
I did a gill scrap before feeding the last dead one to the sliders (Dead or alive they love goldfish) and got nothing. No parasites, no flukes, no nothing. I'm assuming at this point it's something bacterial and started a mild treatment, but I usually have more symptoms to work with.
My books have nothing and all I'm turning up online is dropsy which usually has more symptoms too.
Worse comes to worse, I'll just start freezing the dead and having a big supply of turtle treats. I just wanted to keep some of them for breeding for more feeders. | |

| It sounds bacterial to me. I am not a pro on fish disease as I have not delt with it often enough. I would continue treating for bacterial infections. Secondary infections are common and feeder goldfish are extremely suceptable to disease. | |

| dont know either . But I have treated most bacteia with salt . I have a huge pond and keep lots of goldfish and Koi and usually have no problems other than a fungus from injury during breeding ect... I have never seen anything causing sunken eyes. Tho I have seen the clouded eyes and everything I have read is that is due to poor water cond or fungus . I would say keeping water in good condition and adding salt would be what I would do. Hope you get a handle on it. Ladyblues | |

| I ran a fairly high concentration salt bath for an hour, then had them off in a tub with fresh water and a lower run of salt and anti-fungal. (Yay Pimafix) I had a bunch die off in the following 48 hours, but after that the rest have been healthy. Right now I'm in the culling stage and I keep thinking of that old Mel Brooks History of the World flick with the "Hump or death" part. | |
