Socolofi and a Turtle Empty
PostSubject: Socolofi and a Turtle   Socolofi and a Turtle EmptyWed May 13, 2009 2:25 am

Someone dropped off some Asian Leaf Turtles (Cyclemys dentata) a while back. One of them was my March photo of the month even.

Anyway, they've been cleaned up and dewormed finally and I now have them in separate tanks. One had a very very bad case of algae growing all over it's shell. It had taken hold even under the scutes so getting it cleaned out was just going to have to wait till the next time it sheds, so I thought.

There's one slightly deformed Socolofi that was in with the medium Con feeders from the fish farm. I dumped it in with one of the Malaysian box turtles, since it was gimpy I wanted to give it a fighting chance (boxies aren't the best hunters). The box turtle had no interest in it at all, so I kept it in there when the Leaf turtle went in.

The Leaf Turtle has no interest in eating it either, and actually sits, and lets the Socolofi eat the algae off it's shell and limbs. Whenever the turtle is in the water the fish is right there. When I feed them they eat together now too. Previously the fish would hide then dart out when it was "safe."

This to me seems like an odd behavior, on both their parts really, but the Socolofi especially.

Yea, if only the Socolofi would eat the algae off the glass. Smile

They sort of remind me of a low rent Yellow Tangs and Sea Turtle photos like ya see in those fancy marine photo books.

These two have gotten along well enough that I'm sorely tempted to grab two more (one for each other turtle) but I'm not sure if I have the one lone retard Socolofi. Smile
