You're not feeding them till monday? I'm assuming they live off the egg sac for the first few days?

Congratulations on the spawn! Smile

Been a long time since I have bred bettas, but if I remember right it takes about two days for the fry to consume the yolk sac. That is about the time that they become free swimming, that is when you would want to begin feeding them with very fine foods.

Another thing a lot of people don't realize, is that you need to keep the tank covered, either glass or saran wrap, while your fry are very small. Their labyrinth organs are very delicate at this time, covering the tank helps to reduce stress to these developing organs.

Best of luck to you! :gluk:

Sorry about your loss. Sad

I would remove the male from the tank when the fry begin free swimming. "Dad" will need to be there until then to pick the fallen wrigglers up and spit them back into the bubblenest. Once they become free swimming though, they are on their own, and....as you sadly found out...fair game.

He did very well if this was his first spawn. Get him and the female back on conditioning foods, once she is nice and full of eggs, give it another try....

Better luck next time. Often times this will happen on a first spawn or even first 2-3. Eventually it should work out for you though.
