The Synodontis multipunctatus, Although from Lake Tanganyika, in Africa is Not a cichlid but a rather interesting Catfish, That is very compatible with your cichlids as their breeding behavior demands (Or at least they prefer)that they be housed with cichlids of the mouth brooding persuasion) I have had the pleasure to keep, and observe through the years this breeding behavior several times. and raised to maturity, the young. In the wild these catfish are found in large schools and would also prefer this setup in your tank, they can be kept singly but much prefer a crowd to be happy and active,so i would suggest a group of at least 6-8 also the likely hood of gettin both males and females are better this way. What happens is when all concerned parties are in the amorous mood, the female mouthbrooder cichlid will lay her eggs and the Multi female rushes in (has timed it just right) and deposits her eggs among the cichlid eggs, the males of both species, then fertilize their eggs. and the female picks up all the eggs and carries them to maturity. Its best , i have found out to (Strip) the female cichlid as soon as she seems to be about ready to relaese the young, to insure the maximum of both species are saved and begin your raising of the young, as you would any other time. To me this is amazing behavior to watch, and profitable breeding of two birds with one stone so to speak

This is a great video which talks about this interesting spawning scenario...
How ironic is it that the mouthbrooders actually raise the predetor that will ultimately gobble up their young?
