| Hello everyone. My names Mark, I'm 35 years old from England. Been keeping fish since i was 9. Started of with the basic stuff like Guppies, Swordtails and Tetras. At one time having 5 tanks in my garage keeping and breeding Kribensis and Gouramis. Then decided to get in to Lake Malawi Cichlids, breeding things like aulonocara nyassae, Pseudotropheus lombardoi and other who's names fail me at the moment. Not kept any fish for 2 years since I moved house but now thinking of getting back in to it. | |

No doubt I will do. Maybe one of the kids will be getting a fish tank for Xmas which is an excuse for me to get back into it I don't know if I should start of with the easy stuff for the kids or jump straight in to the Cichlids again.

| Well, Cichlids would be my choice but then it wouldn't be all for the kids...Start with a small tank for the kids then convince the spouse you need another tank | |

| Some of the cichlids would be excellent starter fish for kids. Oscars are near indestructible, and so are Convicts for that matter too.
I have much better luck with kids and larger fish. The bigger ones have more personality.

| Not having Oscars again!!! Had 3 in a 6 foot tank once. They were about 2" when i bought them. They grew to about 7" and were the messiest eatest i've ever known requiring more cleaning out than te usual fish. Convicts aren't bad, I had those before too. | |

| Heh. My kids like the Oscars we have left, they think they're fun. I've found that any Oscars I end up with I keep with a channel cat, they clean up near everything the Oscars make a mess of and leave behind. | |

| Welcome to FWM mark! I like the idea of kribs or rams. Start small and then when the MTS (multiple tank syndrome) kicks in again get bigger fish . but thats just my opinion. Welcome back to the hobby! | |

| Hi! Definitely get back into the hobby , It's so rewarding for me. I love to watch them and observe their behaviors. The kids will love it too, while teaching them responsibility. Welcome back to the love of fishes! | |
