My two scale babies: Empty
PostSubject: My two scale babies:   My two scale babies: EmptyThu Nov 20, 2008 5:44 am

I got two goldfish at the moment (would like to have more, but not practical where we live most of the time now... it will have to wait until we are staying at the house again and we can use the pond).

Aquarium I got is a Aqua Start 500 (Aqua One)... which we bought last summer when we had to move into a flat to be closer to my partners work.

Before that we had a pond in our garden (which is still there, just without fish), where we had 4 goldfish, 3 of whom we'd had for 4 years (living in both aquariums and ponds).

Sadly as we moved 3 of them died... I guess the stress was too much for them... they were massive, and I feel so incredibly guilty for bringing them with us...

So... the one who survived the move... that would be Carrot-Stick, who's about 5-6 inches now... a gorgeous big chunky girl! We got her about 3 years ago, so she was the "newbie"... she got her name as when we added her to the then pond, she look like a little piece of Carrot floating in the water! lol!

As Carrot-Sticks family passed on, we decided to get her a little pal... and that was Banana-Boat. We got him about a year and a half ago. He was the first yellow goldfish I'd ever seen.... and I fell in-love at once! lol! Out of all the yellow fish they had, he was the only one who had the tail of a shubunkin, so he was the one we picked. I was worried about him having a crook in his tail, but was assured he wasn't ill, but had probably been damaged when he was young.

Anyway - here's some pictures of my gorgeous babies (notice only plastic plants... in the beginning of getting the aquarium we tried with live plants, but the fish ate them all within days... in the end we gave up and went for plastic)... all pictures are clickable for larger views:

lol! No... Carrot-Stick is my little (ok... she's huge, and she really deserves to go in the pond again) girl. And I'm very lucky BananaBoat turned out to be male... I know it's possible to sex them, but I simply cannot for the world of me see a difference (except that BananaBoat gets his mating spots when he's ready to do the do).
