I have a rena XP3 on my 125g. Yesterday I noticed something strange. When I put the top on (lid with motor etc.) It wasn't priming blowing water and air out. I took it apart and cleaned everything checked the gaskets. Put it back together and still the same. I unplugged it and it started overflowing. I took and lifted the lock lever, after cleaning the mess up. I noticed with the lever up it was fully primed and working correctly. After moving the lever up and down slowly it finally primed with the lever down and no leaking. Has anyone had this problem before?

I've got two XP3s on my 100gal. They've been running for over three years, and I've never had any problems with them. I hope this was just a one time thing for you.

Mark

Well it is the second time it has happened! with this one filter. I have had this one for almost two years and my xp2 is almost five years old. I think I will just try and pick put my xp2 lid on my xp3 to find out if it is the lid or the port piece.

Call Rena. Their CS is a bit of a hassle to get on the phone but they're awesome when you do.

I had one of my 5 year old xp3s bite it a year ago. I had taken the top apart and knew what had failed, so I called Rena to see if I could get the parts or if they did repairs on them hoping it would be cheaper than a new one. The tech guy said they didn't really have parts like that but instead they just sent me out a brand new lid. No warranty no nothing, I didn't even have to pay shipping.

Why would you want to Mike? You get the nice and funky bacterial benefit of leaving them a bit cruddy. It's never been enough to clog em. You'll pop the motor before that happens. Wink

Mine clogs and spits out chunks of crap into my nice clean tank and makes the water cloudy for 2 days unless I clean it every month. I want an FX5 soooooo bad!

Woah. What are you using for media? I've used them for forever and I've never seen them do that. I only ever have algae grow in the tubes or plant chunks clog the intakes.

Update, I did water changes on Tuesday along with filters. I took and cleaned the heck out of the filter, impeller, hoses etc. The problem seems to be resolved....fingers crossed!
