| Its been a couple of decades since I've kept any Jewels, but if memory serves, the speckling in the tail would indicate a male. In females, the speckling wouldn't form a crescent like your's has. Also your female JD's gill plate is beautiful.

| It's been forever since I've had Jewels here but I think it's a male as well Mark. Tho I'm going by the sparklies on the gill plates. | |

| males are darker with more metallics and they are also bigger with a more elongated body, as to where the females are a brighter red with a bit more brown, and fatter | |
