I have two Emperor 400's on my 125g along with a Rena xp3, I love them. I primarily only use Foam (biological) and polyfiber (mechanical) in most of my filters so they work fine for what I am putting in them. The only downfall is they prime slowly after a water change.

This is based on 400s from a few years ago ('04 maybe) I don't know if anything has been changed from when I got mine.

My 2 400s are on a quarantine tank with a sponge filter. They're also my experimental media testing grounds.

Except for the little jets that make the biowheel go clogging now and again they're built like a tank and have taken every imaginable form of abuse I've thrown at them. They get my stamp of can't break em approval.

That being said, cheaper things can be had, if your not going to beat them unmercifully that do just as good a job.

I love my Emperors. I have 1 Emperor 400 and 2- 280's I haven't had any issues with them over the last 2+ years. I agree they are pretty durable and they are also very easy to maintain. They supply a brush to help unclog the spraybars but I haven't had to clean mine out yet. Never been clogged.

Hrm. I don't remember getting little brushes to clean out the sprayers. I need to go through my junk box and see if I threw them in there without realizing it. Smile
