Well originally I was thinking about a EBJD breeding project. Then I though a 55g would probably be too small. I have changed my mind and have decided I need another 100g+ tank. I think I am going to take my 75g and turn it in to a Red Belly Piranha tank and move some fish in to the 125-180g?! I will then also have a empty 55g at that point. I used to keep six 10-12in. piranhas and they were so fun esp when feeding and schooling. A truely fun group of fish and predatory.

Not in my experience, the ones I had were very social and always hungry!

My experiences with Piranha are just like big sev. All the ones I've seen are mad skittish and freak out at the drop of a hat. I had one that I took in that lost an eye from freaking out and ramming into something at the fish store.

If you do get 'em I recommend splurging on a good pair of long tongs. They came in very handy with the little nippers.

Well I can say the ones I had were skittish at times and occasionally would find one flopping on the floor from jumping out.

With you having a kid a mesh metal lid wouldn't be bad either.

I use these (and some bricks) on anything I don't want the kids accidentally sticking their hands into:

Also works real good for keeping jumpy fish in the tanks.

They got solid one piece ones as well in the actual stores, I just prefer the hinged ones.

You still interested in Piranha? I got a call from the fish store near me. Someone dropped off two 8 inchers. One has some brusing on it's lower lip, but both appear to be healthy otherwise. Currently only eating live food.

I didn't pick them up, since I think Piranha are a gigantic pain in the butt. I can call them back if you want.

Red Bellies. pygocentrus nattereri. I stopped by and saw them today. The girl who took them in thought they were pacu. The one looked liked it tried to jump, and slammed into something good, but otherwise looking as good as can be expected being brought in a 10g tank. (They're in a 40 right now)

I know 2 isn't a good number to keep, but apparently some dude stopped by the store with the two of them in a 10g aquarium. We're there more? Who knows. They were suprisingly not skittish for piranha, I have to say. Usually my 4 year old scares most fish. (He just gets excited, not bad about it) but these two were just kinda hanging out.
