Uh. Bala's don't really do ponds yo. They like it warm.

I wouldn't take inspiration from certain other forums online, it would seem that some of them have more moneys then sense.

You're gonna need a big pond. The iridescent shark (Pangasius sutchi) will push 3-4', BSF. Have your parents already okayed the pond indoors? If so, why don't ya consider putting the ID shark, your aro, the wolffish, the water cow, the TSN and the TSN x RTC cross in the pond, and using your 150 for the goldfish, koi and balas? If the pond is big enough of course, say 500 gallons or more.

Don't you think I was going to put the ID shark in the pond?? Yes of course I was. I know how big they get. That is a great idea!! I am going to do that, but I sold the wolffish. So it will be the shark, aro, watercow, and cats in there along with more fish.

BSF the best advice I would give you is to really research fish before you but them...the iridescent shark is really not a good tank or pond type fish IMO. You should have a good 1500 gallons of water to properly care for them. Not to mention when they are full grown it will cost a couple hundred dollars a month to feed them.

It is easy to say you will upgrade and eventually you will have room to properly care for them when they are small. You have to ask yourself, In five maybe ten years from now when said fish is four feet will I be able to care fro it properly still? Will I be able to get rid of the fish if I have to.....what if the tank breaks or the pond is destroyed then what do I do.

Point here is monster fish are a whole lot different from the basic aquarium fish, in all aspects. If you can care properly for it for the life of the fish I am all for it...if there is any doubt don't get involved. IMO living at home still...you really should not make that commitment.

That was the understanding I had, yes. But ya also have a lot of potentially very large fish in the 150, fish too large for a 150 when they're full grown. The TSN and the TSNxRTC hybrid foremost, and the 150, at only 18" wide, is really too small for the jardini as well, which should max-out between 24 and 30 inches somewhere. Scleropages sp. aren't as flexible as Osteoglossum, and when he gets larger the jar may start developing spinal deformities from too tight quarters.

I was going soft, trying to plant the seed, with a suggestion of a 500g + pond, but a 1500 like Mostlycichlids suggested is more realistic for long term care, and it would still not be ideal for your three cats and the aro. And your talkin' 'bout addin' more fish.

Not tryin' to rag on ya. It's easy to say "I'm going to get a large tank up before the fish needs it." Circumstances often dictate that we can't meet the goals we set, and then the fish suffer. Fishkeeping isn't about having the rarest or largest fish; it's about keeping fish you can care for well. In 25 years, I've never had a fish larger than a jaguar cichlid or an oscar. Why? because I can't house a fish larger than that comfortably.

I find your enthusiasm for fish refreshing. You're a sharp kid. Ya mean well. Please think about what MC and I have posted.

Wow, I sure feel kinda bad now.

I had an 8in ID shark come in one morning, and someone stopping by to pick up somebody else saw it, knew what it was and took it that afternoon. I knew nothing about it at the time, but dang. I sure hope dude knew just how big they got.

MC I'm not sure why they would cost hundreds a month to feed though, is this a different ID shark than Pangasius hypophthalmus? From what I was just reading about them any sort of pellets and the occasional feeders should be a fine maintainer for when they get large. 40lb bags of fish chow is $30 a bag.

Anyway, Biggie, listen to these two guys, they just beat me to it, but I agree with them 100%. Pace yourself man, see how big a pond your can scam your parents into letting you build inside, just make sure you do it in a basement, 1500 or even 500 gallons of water is a hell of a lot of weight. Wink

I guess I was exaggerating a bit but it will be costly to feed all of them when they are full grown, I guess I was thinking about live foods and being more expensive that way.
