| Depends on what your long term plans are. If you are buying juvies to grow out that size tank should work out. Sounds to be in the neighborhood of 180 plus gallons. Oh BTW welcome to FWM! | |

| Sounds like it may be a 100 long (72"x18"x17"). Do you know how many gallons? I wouldn't put that many sevs in a 100gal permanently as MC has pointed out. But you could probably use it to growout and/or get a couple of sets of fish paired up. | |

| Yup. A 180 is 6'x2'x2'. Not much more to add to what Dawg said. WYite | |

| If I were you I'd probably put at the least 5 or 6 sevs. Then add some dithers like silverdollars, bala sharks, rainbows, or even smaller tetras or barbs would work to reduce aggression problems. Alex | |

| How long is the near future and what size are you looking for? I'm just trying to find out how long the sevs would be in your 180 gallon before you get the bigger tank. | |

| Well once you make the upgrade I would say you will be able to house 15 or so adult sevs. Sounds awesome! | |

| I think if you were able to perswade your wife you should be able to do 15+. IMO I think for a short period of time (4-5 months) you could house 15 in your 180g but I wouldn't wait to much longer than that. | |

Should be upgradeing to a fluval Fx5 in the next couple of weeks..
Would you recommend i use a secound external ie keep one of the 405`s aswell?
Sorry about all the questions just experienced advice is always welcome..

I agree, except it should be noted the current and turbulence created by the return flow could be overwhelming. I've never used any of the Fluval filters so I checked on flow rates. The quotes on-line vary, but the Fx5 seems to be 925 GPH and the Fluval 405 is quoted between 225 GPH and 340 GPH. The Fx5 and 405 (lower flow rate) equal 1150 GPH in a 110 gallon tank, plus the internal canister flow. That's a pretty good current. I'd suggest a spray bar attached to the returns on the canister filters to disperse the flow somewhat. I ended up doin' this with my 225. It was set up with two Magnum 350 canister filters and three HOB Whisper 500s (I know, I'm dating myself here), with a suction and return for each canister filter in each rear corner. I noticed my fish avoided those corners. That changed when I installed spray bars on the return lines from the Magnums. I plan on setting this tank up the same way. WYite | |
