Here is the fluidized reactor that I built.I got the design from someone in another forum,so I cannot take credit for that. All you need are some PVC fittings and PVC glue,a few compressions fittings, some flexiable tubing and a powerhead.I use a Maxijet 400 powerhead. The 1/4'' tubing fits right in the outlet nozzle on the pump.I use it with ROWA phos.I have a problem with cyano bacteria in one of my tanks and this is the only thing that helps. You could use it with charcoal,or any other media you wanted to.The only thing is make sure you have a valve on it.You do not want the media so fluidized that it flows out into the tank. This is what the valve is for.I tried it out,and tested for leaks on a 5 gallon bucket. This is when I adjusted the valve to make sure that no media was getting out into the water, and staying fluidized within the reactor. The whole thing took about a half hour to build. The fittings and tubing cost about $15,and the powerhead was $20 online including the shipping. The 90 degree fittings allow you to hang it on your tank.I stick the powerhead high up on the tank, and just run the tube into it.It works great and was cheap and easy to build.

Very cool. I was actually thinking about building one after getting an old aquarium faucet water treatment gadget. Not sure what I'd use it on, but still cool to have handy.

Where did you pick up the clear pipe? I'd get no love on that from my local hardware store.

I work in a wholesale plumbing warehouse,so I got the pipe for free,it was damaged.I have no idea what it would cost,I know it is expensive.I will check tomorrow to see if we have any more, but I am pretty sure it has all been taken.I think you could use the vacum end off of a gravel vac,and when you need to knock out all of the media, just knock the bottom elbow on your counter and you should be good to go.

I was assuming it was as thick as regular pvc just in clear. Is that the case or not so much? If you run across any more scraps let me know, not sure how much stuff like that runs, but it would definitely be fun to play with.

Oh the trouble I'd cause and the things I'd build with access to that much plumbing supplies.

Air Compressor + Plumbing = Fun.

Another correct answer for that problem could be Insurance Liability. Wink

Now that I look at the pic, that is actually one of the ones I have using a gravel vac.But I also have 1 with a piece of schedule 40 pipe, but I am not sure of the exact wall thickness. We are all out of the damaged pieces, and it is not something we stock.A 2'' x 10' runs around $75,plus shipping, and there is no telling how long it will take to get it.
And yeah, haveing a plumbing warehouse at your fingers can get you into some trouble. Laughing
