Mystery Puffers. Empty
PostSubject: Mystery Puffers.   Mystery Puffers. EmptyFri Mar 27, 2009 9:45 pm

I got some Puffer dropoffs and I'm having a hard time IDing them. My books here don't get too detailed on puffers unfortunately.

There's three of them, and I was told they started out tiny, and got to tank destroying size fairly quickly. They seem to like to sit on the bottom. No interest in krill, haven't tried live yet, but dropped in a small piece of chicken from turtle feeding time and they destroyed it. Before they came here they were in with some medium sized SA Cichlids so they have some fin damage, tails are clamped up some too, but I don't know if that's normal for this type or stressed.

It looks to me like a Tetraodon turgidus.

Tetraodon turgidus. 99% sure. May be T. cutcutia, but I think the spots extend too far down the sides.

Dang. That was fast. Thanks you guys.

Now at least I can dig up some care sheets on these slugs. Curious to see if how they're acting is normal. They're some of the laziest puffers I've ever seen.

Well if that link is right, they're almost full grown then. They seem to be tolerating each other just fine currently too. I'll have to keep an eye on it just to make sure they don't start beating on each other. That tank has lots of things to hide in, under and around so hopefully they'll be cool.

Need to get some crayfish next time I'm at the fish farm too. I bet they'd like them. Either that or have a way for krill to sink, since they're in a fairly tall tank.

Those three got adopted out a long time ago. If memory serves, the person who took them called them fang's puffers, which seems to be the common name for Tetraodon Cochinchinensis.

That fishy site you found looks really cool too.
