Sick Rainbow Cichlids? Empty
PostSubject: Sick Rainbow Cichlids?   Sick Rainbow Cichlids? EmptySat Aug 22, 2009 10:20 pm

These guys are always the life of the party but for the last 3 days they have been just laying around. At feeding time if something makes it to them (very rare for food to hit the bottom of this tank) they will eat, but they make no effert to get any, they would not even budge for brine shrimp and blood worms, and normaly they would stand thier ground against the JDs for these treats!

Some info and current events:

Thier in a 125, the water checks out great, temp is 77 and even though I just did a 30% water change and vac (normal weekly maint. schdl.) this past thur, I did a 50% water change yesterday, just because thats what I always do if I suspect there might be a problem in the tank.

I removed a pleco, sev, pictus cat, the jds and a pair of convicts last sat. and added 2 dwarf texas cichlids, a tiger pleco and some hornwort that were in my 55 gal quarantine tank since july 24th. The cons are in the 55 now with a bunch of the hornworth and 8 giant dainos that have been in there for over a year. They are doing great. I am sure there will be eggs this week.

All of the rainbow's tank mates are doing great, they are eating, and acting normally.

Please check out the pic and share your thoughts. Thanks, Ed.

I would say they look stressed...They may not be as dominant sense adding the new tankmates and switching things up. I would give it another couple days...as long as you dont see anything out of the ordinary...look for aggression and behavior changes besides the not eating.

My experience with Cichlids is they stress out when you add fish and change decor around....kinda whiny babies about their territory....it pisses them off! At least that is what I have seen behavior wise with most of my Cichlids...some are bigger babies than others...glad to hear they are doing better.
