I just picked up a 65 gallon tank with a stand, canister filter, lights and more. Once it is filed it is going to weigh a lot. How many of you keep tanks this size or bigger on your main floor? I have 4 tanks, but this will be the biggest I have ever had.

On my first floor, there's a 55, 33, 29, 20H and 20L

The 55 and the 20L are very close to each other, as is the 29 and 20. The 33 is off by it self.

Mostly it's going to be a issue of where the studs/load bearing walls are. If where you want to put the tank is say over an i-beam, you're pretty safe.

I've never thought twice about putting 75 gallon tanks or smaller on the top floor. I've doubled up 55s on one stand. And I had my 225 on the top floor in the first house I rented.

Saint pretty much covered it. The 225 was against a load bearing, outer wall.

Yep I wouldn't worry a 65g is going to be fine no matter where you choose to put it. The question is what are your plans? By the way congrats on the new pick up!

Congrats on the new tank! As everyone else has said the weight shouldn't be an issue. If you want to be extra safe you can place the tank perpendicular to the direction of the floor joists so the weight is spread out over multiple joists. Good luck with the new tank.

Definitely congrats on the new tank! And for the record, even though the 225 did just fine for two years on the top floor, I'd seriously have to think twice about doin' it again now that I'm a bit older and a bit (hopefully) wiser.

I figured it would be fine, but thought I would ask. Thanks everyone.

I plan to move all my fish from my 29 gallon and 10 gallon to the 65, it's more than enough room for them and it will make my wife happy.
