How To cure Ick on EELS

I have gotten a lot of pms on my eel forum about there eels getting ick. If your eel gets ick do not panic. Just follow these simple steps and your eel should heal:
1.) Do a 70-80% water change to remove any ick crystals so that they don't get on the eels slime coat or any other fish.
2.) Once the tank is filled add some kosher salt and melafix or any other ick medicine. Add a pinch or 2 of kosher salt every day. Add it slowly. No effects on meds. Yes its safe on eels.
3.) Turn the temperture up to 75-80 degrees.
4.) Montior your eel for 24 hrs to see if there is any improvements. Look for improvements, getting worse, etc...
If your eel is covered in ick put him in qt and do steps 2,3, and 4.

Just curious could you ues aquarium salt insted of kosher salt?

Temps really need to be 82-85 to kill ICH!

I'm not a big fan of the meds myself. I use the salt and heat method if I ever see Ich. Like Paul said I usually like to keep the temp up between 82 to 85deg and add about 2 teaspoons of salt per gallon of water. The tank should be treated until a full week has passed since the last sign of Ich in the tank.

QT is fine if a fish is very distressed and needs to be taken away from other fish but once Ich shows up in a tank you will need to treat the entire tank to eliminate it.

Yes if its really bad, but if not it should be from 75-79.

Anyone I get in with ich, gets salt, 84 degree water and melafix. So far that and heavy water changes usually clears up most fish funk I've encountered. The only exception to that rule was that one JD that had the fishy herpes.

I have never used melafix to cure Ich but I can see your point SF.
