| How do people price fish? Do they look at the average price or the availability? What happens if there isn't a fish that you have on the market, how would you figure out the price?
I ask these questions because I have GGJD fry that I plan on selling once they hit 1-1.5" and no one is selling GGJD's.

| Availability, size, popularity, ease of obtaining etc.....For the GGJD's I would go about 5-7 bucks a piece at 1-1.5 inch. I have no method for my pricing but I would consider they are JD's and they carry gold genes. Most people are not really too interested in gold JD's etc...but they are fairly rare. I would imagine you wont get much more than 5-7 bucks a piece at that size...just my opinion. | |

| Since they're a rare oddity, you can set the price to whatever you want. Doesn't mean they'll sell but I would factor in your costs to get 'em up to an inch and half. Food, time and effort. I'm not sure what places like Aquabid charge for an auction listing but you can always start 'em off in the $7 range and if they don't sell drop 'em to 4 or 5 per. I gotta agree with MC too, my lone goldie was a survivor in a batch of regulars and I kept it instead of using it for turtle snacks since she was such a oddity. It wasn't until Mark started posting on here about them that I ever saw another one. I'm half tempted to get one or two of 'em and grow 'em out like the last gold jd I had. Regular JDs don't hold much interest anymore after having that gold one for as long as I did. | |

| Not that it is very helpful but for academic interest only a nice 4" JD goes for the equivalent of $8. A 1"-1.5" fish is around $3. A 1.5" neon/electric blue JD was $40!
I'm not so keen on the golds I've seen. They lack the fancy colouration yes?
Fish seem fairly cheap here but then anything that I want costs a bomb. I've got to get some silver dollars to bump out a shoal and because they need to be of a similar size I'll end up paying $20+ a fish.

| Hummm. JD's around here run in the $10 range for a 1.5-2" EBJD's $25-$40 depending on were you go. I could wait until they are 1.5-2" and sell them for $10.
I'm also thinking on growing one out to 4-5" just to see the coloration and use it as a selling point.

| All I know is you dont want to set the price too low that way you will have people buying them like crazy and trying to get in the business of breeding them as well. Good example are the BN plec's. Reg short fin used to cost $5-10 @ 1.5'' now they are $1.25. People killed the market. Also you might not want to try and sell all lets say 500 fry that you have. Try to limit the amount you sell to keep the price up. Just like a ferrari | |

| Here BN ancistrus have had an insane market. They were $10-11 a fish. Now they are $4 and dropping. I did pay $15 for a fully grown male recently though. Other fish prices, a baby oscar is around $3. An 8" chap is more like $15-20. Paid $30 for a 10" common plec about a year ago. Paid $8 per fish for 3" green terrors. Same for blue Severus. Things like barbs are $1.5-2.
Because of the size, temperament, space required and relative ease of spawning cichlids I don't think JD's are ever really going to be much of a cash cow. Silly prices are usually there when things are very new to the market. I guess gold ones count as a novelty and as long as people want one and the price isn't exorbitant they'll buy one.

| I'll see if I have any pics of my old gold Mike, the coloration on it was neat. There were the usual specs but they were a pale almost sky blue. It was schnazzy. | |
