30 Fish Gone Empty
PostSubject: 30 Fish Gone   30 Fish Gone EmptyWed Mar 24, 2010 10:45 pm

Well, I have been getting sick of seeing skeletons and fighting between the Mbuna. I have been thinking about getting rid of them now for some time and finally did. I ended up having to euthenise two fish which I found unda some rocks. Anyway ended up getting rid of all the African I had also a few Raphael catfish. Now the 75 was empty but only for a couple of hours....

In the 75g I have..... 2x Convicts, 2x Pink Convicts, 1x Texas and my Green Terror. This opened up the 120g and thinned out the stock....

In the 120g now I have 2 Jack Dempsay, Severum, 4x Silver Dollars, 3x Featherfin Synodontis and a Sailfin Pleco.

The 125g still has the Oscar and 2x Jags...I think I might get rid of the Oscar and the Synos but haven't decided yet.

ya mbuna get boring after a while, i used to mistake there daily routines with personality, i now know different.

you thinking about getting some new stock?

if so i suggest a large growing cat, large as in 18 to 30 inches, not a rtc or tsn

Ya know, MC, I kept mbuna almost exclusively for 16 years, before I moved. Though I can't imagine not having a tank of them, I just can't see myself goin' back to that same situation. Enjoyed it while it lasted, time to continue on. In my case, it's kinda goin' back to my "roots", to fish that I kept or wanted to keep the first few years of my fishkeeping, but never bred or really explored the full potential of 'cuz I got hit by Rift Valley Fever.

Yeah, I just got sick of the fighting and having beat up males and harassed females. Also was sick of the weaker fish getting beat on almost daily. Once the ratios get out of line the shit hits the fan and all bets off. Anyway I am glad I made the decision cause I have more room for my big boys now and a few new ones.

Most of them went to a guy on a local forum here in NM....others went to the LFS for credit. I did get some new stock though that are in the 75g now....2x Pink cons and two regulars and a juvi Texas, I also threw the Green Terror in there for kicks. Want to get a pleco for the 75g and the 125g though.

The Oscar got moved back to the 120g yesterday and the 125g is a Jag tank once again. I took pretty much everything out but a large rock and some river rocks to provide more room. I hope I can get them to breed....Oh I forgot to mention that the two pink cons are Male and the two regulars are females so if all goes well I am going to have new problems on my hands.
