| I decided to start this thread to give people a place to just throw stuff out there about what they are doing (fish or critter related) that you don't feel deserves its own thread but you still want to put it out there. If people decide it is a fun thread to post the everyday fishy stuff we all take for granted then I can always make it a sticky. I have done this on other sites and it just seems like people enjoy seeing what others do in day to day activities. I'll start... Last night I went to a PVAS meeting and heard a great talk and slide show on collecting native fish species for your home tanks. This particular guy had gone to Alabama and retrieved some great looking fish and has some spectacular native tanks from all over the country. After the presentation we had our monthly fish auction and some guy picked up 6 juvie rotkeil severum for $1 I need to get some more tanks in my house. I couldn't believe they went that low. If I had space I would have scooped them up in a second. | |

| Damn dawg thats a steal, hard to pass that one up....
Well yesterday I went to Petco and Petsmart. I went to petco because I found out that the food and prime I get is cheaper there than petsmart. Sense Petsmart wont do online price match I decided to shop at Petco. Well while there I was listening to a lady asking one of the employees there some questions. This guy was a complete dousche and didnt have a clue....
To make a long story short I jumped in and gave her some advise. The employee was pissed and talked over me and proceeded to sell this woman a tiger barb for a 1g. I made one last attempt to tell them both at this point that tiger barbs need to be kept in groups of 10 or more and are really not good for a 1g. At this point he called for a manager. I ended up putting back the stuff in my hand and walking out to avoid confrontation.
I then went on my way to Petsmart....bought my stuff for more and was happy. Doing water changes today, filter cleanings yea!

| It was tough to pass up.
lol...they don't like it when you tell people the truth and prevent a sale. The thing these people don't realise is that if you help people learn the right way to raise fish they will be hobbyists for the long term and buy products for years to come. If you teach them the wrong way they will get frustrated quicker and get out of the hobby quicker and sales go bye bye. If he was smart he would have tried to talk her into a larger tank rather than run you off.

| So no one else has done any fish type stuff in the last couple of days? I thought about doing water changes last night and then decided that the weekend would be a perfect time to do that. Most likely they will get done tomorrow. | |

My female GT has been through a lot about 5-6 years old now not doing to well feel sorry for her she was so cool before the Velvet a couple years ago and couple moves sense. I dont think she has as much "will" as she once did.
That's it for now. | |

| lol...this can be the MC/Dawg bullshit thread. I still have my FH in with the sevs. They seem to still be doing well together and not really fighting or going after each other except for usual cichlid behavior. I would put up some pics if any of them came out halfway decent. My camera really sucks. The FH is growing like a weed and is already almost the same size as the female sev. When I first got it in June it was about half the size of the female. | |

| Just off graveyards, water changes tomorrow. One tank to go to get in there. People keep finding excuses to not be available to move it. I can't take good photos with my camera, but videos come out pretty good. Next coupla days wanna do a video tour and post it. | |

| I've been so busy with fishy/turtle stuff I haven't even been here much. Malaysian Boxies and their fishy friends are in for the winter. They don't hibernate so, they get a livestock tub to hang out in. Russians are back in, tho they could have waited a bit, as well as all the non native boxies. It got warm again, so I left the Easterns out there for a bit still. This weekend may get down to the low 50s so I'll start getting them set up inside then. Handful of sliders left too, I got to fix the shelf their pond was under, and still need to test the one by it self to see if it's clean. It had pinworms and horrible horrible infections. That's the one we think someone dyed to sell as a fancy expensive RES. Snappy's double wide came in and that got set up yesterday mostly. Still need to build a lid and get the lights set up. She's going to have a 5x2x2 acrylic tank. Yea, I know acrylic can scratch pretty easy but, she's usually pretty good, and well, it was stupid cheap. Baby snappies are doing well, they'll be getting Snappy's tank once she moves. Axolotl/Gourami/Sev/Frog situation is fail. I had a Sev and a few gouramis together. All was good, then someone dropped off some african clawed frogs. So I tried them all together. The frogs started tormenting the gouramis, so I tossed the gouramis in with the Axolotls. No sooner did I take the gouramis out, the sev destroyed one of the frogs. Arg and ack. So, I threw the sev in with the red tailed cat. Things were good for a few days until the gouramis decided to pick on the axolotls, and the rtc decided the sev really was a snack after all. Even though the sev is too large it's not stopping him from trying. I'm pretty sure the picked on axolotl isn't going to make it, and later on today the other two are going in with the pretty feeder goldies to see if that works out any better, or at very least give the axolotl's something they can eat. | |

| So I found me a new LFS today. I drove by the other day and noticed it but was in a hurry. Well I went in today and to my suprise this store is dedicated to Freshwater Fish only and Specializes in Central and South American Cichlids. Store is one of the best I have ever stepped foot into. Prices are excellent he has a wide variety of NLS food, tanks, lighting everything.....wow I am so excited.
Couldn't resist the Meeki I got today. Be bagged it up really well even gave me a styrafoam box for transport, may have to set up another tank for a couple EBJD which he will be getting on Wed bout 3-4 inch size.
Great Day...... | |

| Congrats on finding a new spot to buy fish.
I'm thinking of combining a few of my tanks since I've had some tanks slowly diminish in numbers over the years and haven't restocked yet. I have a single pristella tetra left from a school I've had for a few years and the rest have died. This last one may be going to visit the flowerhorn very soon. I also have some harlequins which I'm probably going to bring to the next fish club meeting to sell. Then I'll put my chain loaches in with the kuhli in my 10 gal and probably shut down my 20L and 20H until the spring. I'll be down to 3 tanks (running) for a little while. I still have another 20H and a 15gal which have never been setup yet. I just don't have as much time right now to keep them all up and going.

| I hear ya dude....I think a lot of us are struggling to find time for the things we love to do right now. It sucks right now but I do know we all have the passion and with the new store opening I can at least go in once a week or so and fart around and BS with the owner! | |

| Well I may only be downsizing by one tank now thanks to my monthly fish club meeting. The speaker was talking about livebearers and he brought some of his personal fish for auction. I picked up 2 reverse trios of Limia tridens that were personally collected from Las Salmas, Dominican Republic. At $2 a pair I couldn't pass them up...so now I'll probably be raising some fry again soon. | |

| Dude. I wish there was a fishy club meeting close by me. Those are pretty, and at two bucks a pair I'd have grabbed a few for the plant tank. | |

| WOO HOO! The 220 is in!!!!!
Cleaned up and thinkin' I might strip and reapply the silicone before I fill it though. I know it will hold water, 'cuz I tested it in the garage, but looking at the silicone it's coming loose in a few places. Think I'd rather do it now than to have to drain it and empty rocks and driftwood later. Any thoughts?

| Depends what you feel comfortable doing, now, or later. Personally if you have it empty and its already in place I would do it now but that's me more work now for less work later! | |

| LOL, MC, my thinkin', 'cept I've been soooooo anxious to get this in. Finally got everybody together without something comin' up. Ended up with one of my movers gettin' four stitches. Almost doesn't seem real to have it in there. I can't believe it's been over four years since I had it up and running! | |

| Definitely do it now. Waiting a few days or a week at the most to set it up beats having a huge leaking tank IMO. It sounds like you'll have to do it eventually anyway. | |

I have also been try to sell some driftwood on craiglist but keep getting all kinds of spam and noone that wants the wood. I am going to try ebay next. I am going to start trying to breed some of the dwarf cichlids I have had for a while.

| Nice! I love those fish. I don't keep them any more because they don't care for my hard water and I have a hard time keeping them alive in my tanks due to the PH, I suspect. | |
