Bass Fishing at Local Pond Empty
PostSubject: Bass Fishing at Local Pond   Bass Fishing at Local Pond EmptyMon May 23, 2011 9:54 am

I went bass fishing at a local pond yesterday with a couple of buddies. Turns out it was a nice little pond and I ended up landing 41 largemouth. It was a fun time. Nothing in there was huge (the biggest one I caught was just shy of 16" and just over 1-1/2lbs) but it was non-stop catching all day. Here's a pic showing all 41...

Nice! Made for an excitin' afternoon I'm sure.

Never have caught a bass. Not too many lakes out here with bass in 'em.

Yeah it was a fun time. Do you fish mostly for trout out there? How about walleye?

Trout mainly, some walleye. A few of the warmer lakes on the eastern side of the state have introduced flathead cats, bass, and various panfish. I'm not sure if there are pike anywhere, pike are strictly controlled by the G&F to the point where I don't know if they've ever been stocked. They have stocked tiger muskies (northern pike/muskie hybrids) in a few lakes at times for trash fish control. They're infertile, so no long lasting effect on the ecosystem.

I haven't fished in a long time. Pretty much hafta have a boat for the bigger lakes with the variety, and these lakes are always crowded, so I generally stick to smaller lakes and streams, especially the high mountain lakes. Love these lakes, water is so clear ya can look down from a ledge and see the fish below. I've caught a lot of nice-sized brookies and cutthroats over the years. There's a coupla lakes in the area stocked with goldens too, but they are skittish. I've seen 'em in the water, but have never been able to get one to take any bait or lures.
