So I have a ten gallon tank that has been running for about 6 months now and in occupied by 6 white clouds and a dwarf African frog. The last few days i noticed black stuff growing on my fake plants. Any idea what this is and how to get rid of it?
I do 40 percent water changes every week and have all fake plants but one Anubis plant. And a side hanging sponge filter system!

I going to guess it's some form of algae, and you could most likely just rinse off the fake plants.

I don't recall ever getting a black variety here. I mostly get green to really dark green with the occasional brown or purple, so if you can get a pic of it, that would be cool just on the off chance you're fake plants are doing something weird. Smile

I'll second that, LOL. I actually started replyin' to ya last night, and then the dogs got out and I ended up runnin' all over the neighborhood after them. An hour later, I was too annoyed to reply.

Ya might decrease the amount ya have the lights on and increase the volume of your water changes for a few weeks to help clear it up.

Cheers,

I agree it's probably algae and due to it being a newer tank it could be diatoms. They will eventually go away on their own with time IME.
