I have a ram question for all of you ram keepers. I noticed tonight that one of my rams has a hint of pink on its side and its belly if kinda fat. the other one is larger, doesent have any pink on its side and is not fat. Well they hang out behing my Blyxa Aubertii and they rarely leave each others side. What does this mean?

I don't keep rams, but that sure sounds like getting it on. Wink

Cons do the same sort of thing. Pink con females have a pinky orange line.

The pink/reddish color on the belly does indicate a female. Sounds like you've got a pair that is thinking of starting a family.

Were you able to sex the rams??
Fish can change color with parameters/temp/mood
Just because one turned a color and they always swim together does not mean a pair. I have 4 bolivians in my 55, 2M 2F and though they always swim together, I have yet to seem them actually pair up.
Pairing up usually occurs when they lock lips, some sites say that if this lip locking lasts for a while, they will most likely be a pair.

If you want to have more luck with them turning nice colors and seeing a bigger change in their behavior (with possible spawning) feed them live blood worms. If you can set up a small glass dish at the bottom so that you can place the bloodworms there so the rams can feast on them. The dish will prevent the worms from getting into the substrate.

Where do you live? The only way I've ever been able to feed live bloodworms was to collect them myself. I know they are available in some parts of the country, but down here, the stores only carry frozen.

I'll have to post them after they hatch. They are tucked between two large Blyxa japonica. You know what I like a chalange. I'll try and get a pic!
