It seemed like no matter what, I couldnt rid my tanks of those tine fine particals from the water. My water was clean and clear, but it didnt seem crystal clear to me. I have used the diatom filters before, but I wanted to find one that was easier to clean and a lttle more budget friendly. After checking out tons of filters and different media options I decided to go with the Marineland H.O.T. Magnum.

I use the micron cartridge (reusable Very Happy ) with the filter sleeve wrapped around it on the 55 and my 3, 30s. It works great! I hang the filter on the tank in the morning befor leaving for work and when i get home 10 hours later the water is crystal clear. Even my wife noticed the difference, and she thought I was crazy for buying it. She insisted the water was crystal clear already. (I dont get to say 'see I told you' to her very often so I wanted to make sure and mention it Razz )

IMO, the easy care, reusable micron cartridge, and $50 dollar price tag makes this filter an awesome deal.

Glad you are having success with it. I have not used one but I had heard a lot of good from these filters. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I have a similar problem with my tank, I may have to take a look at one of those filters.

I thought they were closer to $100. I may look into them a bit if they're that cheap.

Dang. Local they are $100, and the 350s are $150.

IS that gravity fed or can you put it anywhere?

I just hang them on the front of the tank and set the lid down on top of the in/out lets.
The first time I set it up I didnt pay attention to the direction of the water return. I came back later to find some of my plants had been pruned by the force of the curent. It is is kinda strong for a 30 gallon. The fish really seem to like it though. They take turns getting in the current and trying to make it to the out let.

The Pro kit comes with a bio wheel return, which softens the return, but I dont use it 24/7 so I didnt bother getting buying it.
