Willamette River - Oregon City

Another Minnow

This is a darn interesting picture and story even if you aren't into fishing,

but please show it to anyone you know that likes to fish.

FYI: This sturgeon is still alive, just worn out from the fight.

They turned him loose after the photo.

Big Fish Image001

This Sturgeon was caught on the Willamette River just below Oregon City two weeks ago.

It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and measured out at 11'1".

It was 56" around the girth and took over 6 and a half hours, and 4 dozen beers, for the

4 guys taking turns at the reeling it in.

Any Sturgeon OVER about five feet has to be released unharmed and cannot be removed
from the water.

They are brood / breeding stock and probably older than most of us.

Important to note just how many dozen beers they had to go through as well as time. Wink

The weight and length are correct, as is the release info. It was actually caught in the Fraser River in B.C., Canada in 2005. It's the largest documented white sturgeon. Not sure about the four guys reeling it in either, because I've read this is the IGFA record for the tackle class. I refuse to pay $40.00 to join the IFGA just to view their world records, though.

One beautiful fish though, regardless of the story.

LOL, could go in his pond after it outgrew his 25. Or was it a 20 long, a 60 or a 70?

Ya know, that fish is probly a good 60 years old, if not more. Kinda blows the mind when ya start thiinkin' 'bout it...
