I think to many pairs in one tank. I think the Jags and Red Tigers would push it. Aren't Red Tiger Motanguese just a morph of Jags?

They get along well together to my surprise. However I must tell you they've been raised together from since they were small starting out in a 120g. I left out a loselli pair earlier.I believe they are used to each other or at least tolerant. Things may change but I've had a jag spawn, cutteri, convict, red tiger x loselli all breed in this tank since november. As for being the same .....they are two different fish. The parachromis managuense is the jag while the parachromis motaguense is the red tiger. These are cousins right along with the loselli and the fredrickstahli which are often sold as each other. Aquamojo has a paper from the 60s that bis very informative on the managuense and dovii. Family similarities.

Nice, sometimes with keeping these big guys is raising them from juvis....I think that raising them from juvis is key to keeping a "over stocked" Cichlid tank! I have done it with success. I am suprised with all the spawns though!

Yes and a very nice collection of fish. When I kept africans I would stock the tank up with fish but also plenty of rock and wood for them to swim into and out of. Blocking direct lines of sight works welll too.malawis are so beautiful.

Alrighty, I'm good for an update myself, as I have fish in a few tanks:

55 Gallon:
1x Rocio octofasciata (Jack dempsey cichlid)
1x Thorichthys meeki (firemouth cichlid). Found my nice male firemouth dead this morning. Quick necropsy showed no signs of anything wrong. No signs of aggression. I'm stumped... Crying or Very sad

55 Gallon:
2x Andinoacara rivulatus (green terror cichlid). Both males, started liplocking this evening and the genital papillae are showing! Drats! Started wondering when my guessed-at "female" started catching up with the male in size. Oh well, ya win some, ya lose some...

55 Gallon:
13x Hemigrammus erythrononus (glowlight tetra)
3x Pristella maxillaris (albino x-ray tetra)
1x Hasemania nana (silvertip tetra)
1x Hyphessobrycon eques (serpae tetra)
2x Bunocephalus coracoideus (banjo catfish)
4x Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus (bristlenose catfish)
Amazon swords and ludwigia.

90 gallon:
5x Astronotus ocellatus (oscar). Two tigers, a red and two albinos. Healed up and moving to the 180 gallon in about a week.

20 Gallon Long:
1x Altolamprologus compressiceps

29 Gallon:
9x Danio rerio (zebra danio)
11x Chanda ranga (Indian glassfish)
2x Trigonostigma heteromorpha (harlequin rasboras)
Plants: Aponogeton sp., Java moss, Java fern, one of them algae ball thingies, and spiral val.

10 Gallon:

4x Carinotetraodon travancoricus (pea pufferfish, dwarf puffer, green and gold dwarf puffer)
Plants: Java moss and Java fern.

15 gallon:

5x Puntius semifasciolatus (gold barb)
6x Tanichthys albonubes (white cloud mountain minnow)

10 gallon:
2x Carrassius auratus (comet goldfish). Please don't ask...

10 gallon:

1x Puntius tetrazona (anti-social, psychotic piscicidal cannibalistic tiger barb minion of the Antichrist!)

20 Gallon Long:

2x Tetraodon nigroviridis (green-spotted puffer)

Not a bad start, pretty much filled all my non-cichlid and non-catfish "wants", 'cept for a few livebearers, Adinia xenica (diamond killifish) and Elassoma evergladei (Everglades pygmy sunfish). Think I'm gonna be ordering some cichlids off the net during my vacation in April since there isn't anything for selection 'round here.
