Any of the smaller eels. You could use a zigzag eel, peacock eel, a spiny eel. You could possibly use a baby tyretrack and fire eel if you plan on upgrading to a 125..

Yeah the zigzags, and peacocks can be kept in groups given that there are rocks in there.

| Just remember all Mastacembalids are predatory and will consume any fish or invert they can fit in their mouth. True, they aren't aggressive in the same way that we think of cichlids being aggressive, but I wouldn't suggest a 5" eel with neons, even a zig-zag. I'd suggest tankmates be at least 1/4 to 1/3 the length of the eel to be on the safe side.

| Just be careful of the American Eel, anguilla rostrata, they get big and once they get big they'll go after near anything. I had one that was beating on any of the fish in it's tank that it could catch (which was all of them) so I tried moving it in to the bigger (sub-adult) slider habitat where it started going after the 5-6" red ear sliders. Since I found out my local hunting/fishing store sells them live as bait, just much smaller, I moved it into the adult slider pond (sucks to be you) with 5 10 to 12 inch res where it mostly got along for a good 6 months until one day I came in and realized I didn't need to feed the adults that day. To this day I have no idea if one of the turtles finally caught it or it just died of natural causes and the turtles had a feast. | |
