| In a case of fishy domestic violence. I am now rehabbing one 4" flowerhorn that got dropped off. Once it gets acclimated I'll be taking some pictures. It looks like hell on the one side, but it's very very active and hoovering food. It was with three others originally, but this one was the runt of the group and got picked on for it. The baby shriek of delight when he saw it may even get me a new bigger tank out of the deal to keep it in to boot. | |

| I'm on the fence. They're really pretty but I'm not too thrilled about it essentially having to live alone due to their anger management issues.
The one year old really really likes it though, so we'll see. I'll have to play the tank shuffle game if we're gonna keep him permanently. Gotta look up how big these bastards get too.

| I'm not sure what to make of the info I'm reading either. Apparently it's the norm for "true" Flowerhorn keepers to cram them into a just slightly too small aquarium so they don't get too long.
Like there were seriously a few sites recommending a 40 for a single adult.
I forget the gallonage, but they had a 2x3x2 tank on sale at Nemo's last week. I believe it was a 90 tall or extra tall or something around that. Wonder if that would work.

| A 90 Gallon would be minimum for one but can likely be kept for life in there. They are pretty lazy compared to some Cichlids and don't require a whole lot of foot print for swimming space. | |

| Wait a second Wyite. I thought the dark side was keeping Africans? Hrm. 90g tank. Oh no. I may have to call and see if the tank is still on sale. Not another tank. That would be a horrible thing. Really. Perish the thought.. Of getting another tank, and setting it up and.. the horror! | |

| I already have the mental image of the tank I'd want to set up for it.
I want to get some old (clean) big medicine bottles. Hopefully blue or green, and to light the tank from underneath with leds up into the bottles to highlight the purple on it..

No, ya said the Midas were evil, too, remember. And now ya're gonna keep a flowerhorn...The transformation is complete. When ya start figurin' where to get, set-up and keep a large tank to house a single fish, well, we're here for ya Rick. WYite

| Actually the flowerhorn has been alone since I've gotten him here. Everything I've been reading about them says they're advanced evil though. Oh and I forgot. Not sure if the Midas were trying to breed or what, but all the aggression was over a single flower pot. I removed the pot and they all went back to being fairly oke. I'm sure it will be something else soon enough but so far so good. If it's at all possible. Once he heals up, I'd like to keep the 3 Parrots in with him as the tank of hybrids. The parrots seem fairly well behaved. They don't take no crap, but they don't seem to start it either. | |

| Parrots have similar behavior traits as Severums don't start stuff but dont take it.....That mix might work. | |

You would be correct on it being a 90 gallon tall or to be exact, if my calculator is correct 89.77gallons. I know you are way past this in your discussion here, but I know jack sh*t about Flowerhorns. Your posts are always worth the time to read saint.

I then add a silver arowana, angels and sevs... lived together for a year.. discus died, then sevs and then finally the angels.

| I've read that the Parrots are suspected to be originally part Severum, so that may be why. 89.77 is close enough. If I do that size tank I imagine I'll eventually have to find a new home for the Parrots when the FH gets big. The next biggest tank they have is a significant jump in price, so if I do anything right now, I'll be doing that one. In other news, this flowerhorn has been the absolute quickest fish ever to be trained to be hand fed. That's a new record for me. | |
